Fundraising Ideas

Your school needs some money for a new program or to promote its leading teams? Does your church need money to be able to help other people and take care of its parishioners? Or do you need money for any valid cause, such as to help people suffering from natural calamities? Whatever the need be for some money, you can generate it through fundraising.

Fundraising can be done by the regular ways such as going door to door asking people to contribute for a good cause or having the regular ‘cake bakes’ or the ‘girl scout cookie sale’ ideas. There are many more ways to raise funds. Here’s a look at some of them.

Conventional Fundraising Ideas:

  • Kids selling candy to all and sundry; starting of course with their own parents.
  • Groups of kids washing cars for money.
  • Bagging groceries at your local supermarket.
  • Walking peoples’ pets.
  • Mowing lawns, shoveling snow, raking leaves etc.
  • A lemonade stand on a really hot day. Don’t keep the money for yourself but give it towards the fundraiser.

Fun Fundraising Ideas

  • Have a food and fun fair with people donating their profits.
  • Organize a bingo night with some of the proceeds going towards your fundraiser.
  • Organize a karaoke night, charge for admissions and sing all night.
  • Put some coins in a jar and have a coin-guessing competition. Winner gets all the coins and you can charge people for entering the contest.
  • Get some famous people in your community to agree to get dunked and charge people for tossing them into the water.

Adventurous Fundraising Ideas

  • Organize competitions such as fitness competitions and sports events and charge people to come and watch people slugging it out.
  • Bench Press-athon. Have people bench press in the gym and collect pledges for every pound lifted. Get all the macho dudes involved and you’ll raise a ton of money.
  • Organize a scavenger hunt and charge teams for entering. You can ask a local merchant to sponsor a great prize so that you can get a lot of entries.

Adult Fundraising Ideas

  • Auction-A-Date: Get some really eligible bachelors and bachelorettes to agree to get themselves auctioned to the highest bidder. The winner gets a date in return. A better idea would be to get some eligible married people and auction them off. The forbidden fruit and all that...
  • Have a ‘ladies only’ night at a popular nightspot and have some really exciting activities planned for the ladies. Charge the ladies a bomb for a night out on the town.
  • Similarly have a ‘men only’ night and charge them even more to paint the town red.

Sentimental Fundraising Ideas

  • Hug-a-deal: Sell a hug for a fee. People can buy a hug for a friend or a family member and also send them a message. Deliver the hug and the message to the recipient, watch their faces light up, and make money out of the whole thing. What a great idea!
  • I-Love-You Sale. In much the same way as the above but the message will be I love you. Surprisingly people find it very difficult to say these three little words to their loved ones. Solve their dilemma and raise funds at the same time.

Intellectual Fundraising Ideas

  • Organize a spelling bee contest for kids and charge their parents to come see them. The winner will be crowned ‘Spelling Bee Champion’ of the entire area.
  • Get a debate going for adults. Choose a really conflicting topic and maybe even a little controversial. Charge people to participate as well as to watch others in the heated discussion.

These ideas are just a small tip of the iceberg. Any idea that you think has merit and will help raise money can be used as a fundraising idea.
